Ella started climbing this week – look out!
We don’t have the same regular growth updates that we did with Marshall because our doctor here doesn’t do those regular appointments.
However, once Ella turned a year, I figured it was time she saw our doctor just for a weigh-in and measure to make sure everything is ok.
Here’s what I got: on April 21st (Ella was 13.5 months) she was 34″ long and her head was 47cm. that’s all he gave me. Luckily, we have the Internet! The google tells me her head size is in the 88percentile, which as we know is actually kind of small for the Dunns.
She is 97th percentile for height, and I put her approximate weight in (27lbs) and she is 97th percentile for age, and 50-75 length for weight.
In short, she is perfect.

I took Marshall shopping on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. We were in RW&co and a song was playing. He started shaking his hips and belting out along to the music: Girl, you’re amazing, just the way you aaaaaaare!
The awesome.
Marshall’s daycare had a show for us last week and it was so good, I thought we’d share
Check out the photos page and enjoy.
Yeah, March and April are pretty much a big blur for me.
I worked a lot. That much I know. And soon, I’ll be on vacation. Well “comp time” anyway. That is overtime paid out to me in time and a half. YES. Thought I actually worked a lot more hours than I actually put in for, it will be nice to have that time.
Cathy (Ella’s sitter) is going away for the next 2 weeks, so I will be off starting on Wednesday, but maybe even Tuesday if I get all my deadline stuff done on Monday
And now for some friday night tax returns…
Today’s the day! And Ella was determined to do something special. Last night in the tub she pulled herself up to standing for the first, and 2nd times. In the tub!
Today she was determined to practice this new skill all day long, all over the house. And went so far as to start trying to climb the stairs. She made it up the first step all on her own.
Now we’re in trouble!
Ella went to Cathy’s place yesterday for a 1/2 day to start transitioning into daycare since Daddy’s going back to work soon. She didn’t cry and loved Cathy (and Cathy loves her!)
Our little girl has teeth aplenty coming in. I can now see her eye teeth points.
Pics and vids have been added to the current photos page. Enjoy!
Ella had a lovely birthday party complete with Princess cake – picked out by Marshall. This was her first cake ever. She didn’t cry when the cake came out but looked rather puzzled, especially when Marshall blew out the candles and the smoke went right in her face. It didn’t bother her though. She touched the icing tentatively, and felt it. Then she went in with the other hand, just gently touching the icing, then right into her mouth it went. I think she was surprised at the taste because her tongue shot right out and she made a face, but then she went back for more. We then served her a proper piece and she ate the whole thing.
I just uploaded some pics and a video – will just have to figure out where the birthday video went and I will post the link … in the next day or 2. Until then, you will just have to imagine the cuteness
The weeks seem to fly by. We’re enjoying our kids, but we don’t seem to have much time to document it.
One morning this week, I was in the shower, and Marshall came into the bathroom to have a pee. I asked what he was doing in here, and he said as much. As he left he said “Sorry to disturb you mommy!”.
Every night, Marshall asks one of us to sleep with him for “6-40 minutes”. Most nights, one of us lays down with him until he falls asleep. Often I fall asleep with his warm back pressed against mine.
Ella is a little monkey, always getting into whatever she can find. She scoots all around the kitchen on her bum looking for crumbs. She especially likes the onion box. She has a one-track mind. And often she looks over with a big smile to see if you’re coming to get her.
Ella and Marshall are hilarious together when they get going. Marshall will start laughing, then Ella starts and back and forth they go.
Ella has her 2 bottom and 2 top teeth now!
Marshall seems to be very into cardboard boxes and building things with them. He’s very into “crafts”.
Marshall decided he wanted Rock Stars for supper. What’s that you ask? Well I took a video of the description because it was too funny. Apparently a Rock Star is dough with vegetables inside it and you put it in the oven and then you put coloured sprinkles on it. I asked where he had seen these and he told me he had them in a dream.
Rick did a pretty good job of making something along those lines with some tortillas. Creative parenting!
Today we managed to make pretzels (like the ones at the mall) and jello. Me and Marshall got to the pretzel dough-rising stage and then I went out and Rick took over from there. They turned out really well!
LOL, I love it! I want some Rockstars myself! I don’t know what’s with the rainbow sprinkles, but in Norah’s mind, they make everything better also! Hope the balancing act of working motherhood is going well for you!
hehe well I can tell you I don’t have much time for updating this website!!!
But yes, things are going well … the next step is seeing how it goes when Rick goes back to work too. It will take some getting used to that’s for sure.
Cute!!
Well, it’s over! I’ve added some more photos, which is what I think you’re really interested in
A new page will be created shortly for 2011 photos!
Christmas was very busy this year, especially since we had that trip to Halifax the weekend before Xmas. It really shortened the timeline. Marshall got most of the things he wanted, and was totally nuts about opening presents this year, but this year, he only wanted to open HIS. Also, he asked for more presents when we were done, and for days following if anyone came over, he asked if they had any presents for him. LOL Kids: no shame!
This year, we had Sandra (Nana) stay with us for about a week or so. She was able to go to one of Marshall’s swimming lessons, and see him get on Santa’s knee. Uncle Jamie was able to make it again this year, and we all stayed up late Xmas Even wrapping gifts. I tried not to have this happen, but it couldn’t be helped. There was just no time!
Xmas day, Grampy came over to watch the opening of gifts with us. Marshall got to start in on his sock while we waited for him to arrive. Ella was more interested in eating paper than anything she received. When it was Ella’s nap time, we paused the opening to have breakfast. Then the wrapping continued.
We had a raclette for Xmas dinner, and it was filling and delicious: chicken satay, shrimp, scallops, veg and of course: halloom cheese. mmm
Jamie did all of our xmas baking for us this year. He brought lemon squares, matrimonial squares and while he was here, he made marzipan. mmmm …He did a great job! He also was the head engineer on the gingerbread house and later, the gingerbread train.
Of course, I had to do my annual boxing day shopping – I met Val at Old Navy at 3am – yes 3am on the 27th. I think I got about 2 hours of sleep. They were opening at 4 and giving away a free Flip video to the first so many people. Luckily we made the cut. I think the snowstorm worked in our favour. Some people were there since midnight but we only froze and got piled up with snow for an hour, so it worked out well. You get a bracelet while in line, then you take your time shopping – I mostly got stuff for the kids – good deals though. Then we hit McDonald’s for giant coffees and breakfast, then Walmart at 7am and then burgers and home. I thought I’d nap, but ended up staying up until 11pm.
Unfortunately, I had to go back to work on the 29th, but only for 2.something days. I skipped lunch and was told to leave at 2pm friday, so I didn’t mind that! (though the work will just be there when I go back on Tuesday… groan)
New Year’s eve, I took the kids for a visit to our friends Kim and John in Riverview, then to the grocery store to pick up a few items and browse the sales… gave Rick some nice time … he needed a break after a full day with an overtired 4.5 year old and a teething snotty almost 10 month old. From there, we went home for a quick super, and then to the annual neighbourhood NYE party. Marshall had a blast. He really didn’t like the countdown though.
That’s our holiday in a nutshell. If I think of any cute tidbits, I may add those later…
