    Final Stretch….

Double meaning… it’s the last day of the Olympics and likely the last week of baby baking. We are all getting excited and are feeling closer to being prepared. Spent the day yesterday organizing the house and getting Ella’s room ready. Meanwhile, Marshall got his haircut and hung out with Grampy. We had a nice turkey dinner last night for no other reason than turkeys were on sale.

I must admit I’ve been much more obsessed with the Games than I thought I would be, particularly the curling. Of course we are all getting ready for the big hockey final, and will be enjoying our famous guacamole and hot dog crescents. This morning, we had our regular photographer by to take some family photos, belly and all. Those should turn out really nice! There should be lots of pictures for everyone to enjoy in the next couple of weeks!

    Baby update

I had my 38 week appointment today. I still don’t have my voice back. Started antibiotics on Tuesday. My sugar was a bit high today so they asked me what I had for lunch. Apparently a vanilla latte and 2 Montreal bagels with cream cheese followed by sucrets just before peeing in a cup will give you high sugar ;) The doctor wasn’t worried about it though. I lost 0.3lbs this week and the trainee doctor thought I was only 36cms (I think not).

So the OB says to me that the fresh blood is arriving tomorrow (see weird blood issue explained in earlier post) and so he think they should induce me at the beginning of the week, to which I utterred a whispered exclamation of WHAT!? ARE YOU SERIOUS!?? WHAT!?? and told him I wasn’t really ready for that yet. He said ok, no problem… we can wait until after your next appointment, do you think you’ll be ready then? *L* And I said unlikely, but more ready. ;) I at least want to get my voice back before I go into labour! It’s a little scary not being able to verbalize LOUDLY if I am in need of something!

He would like to have me deliver in a controlled environment during the day with the weird blood and all.
So… my next appointment was scheduled for March 4th at 3pm. I am guessing I will be scheduled to induce early hours of the following day? Or maybe the Monday after?

So yeah, freaking out a little right now … so much to get ready!!! :) Mostly been lazing about this week trying to get better, but I’m going to have to start making those curtains soon!

I can sympathize – Jake was induced at 36 weeks. We went in for an appointment, and were told I’d be put on the induction list that day. Luckily, it took a couple of days to get the call to come in.

I hope you feel a LOT better before Ella’s arrival!

Sounds like my guesstimate may be on target for the arrival date???

    Little things

Trying to remember to update little things:

-Marshall weighed in at 17kg (37.4 lbs) Feb 14th.

-He no longer needs the potty seat or a stool to use the bathroom. He pees standing up now. He refuses to use the stool to wash his hands or brush his teeth now because he’s tall enough (barely!).

-We put a little mirror up in the main floor bathroom (under the big peoples’ mirror) because he wants to see himself to “wash his face” with wet kleenex for some reason. (and without using the stool)

-He refuses to try blowing his nose.

-He knows a lot of colours in french now, and body parts.

-He makes up stories and sings songs we don’t know.

-He is practicing showing 2 on his fingers (like the peace sign) and is now able to do it by himself. next: 3. I told him he just has to keep practicing.

-He has asked how Baby Ella got in my belly. I think I did a pretty good job without lying. I told him Daddy planted a seed there and it grew like in the garden. He thought this was quite amusing and asked if it tickled. I admitted that it did ;) I may have posted this tidbit before, I can’t remember… I may have also told him that I was going to the hospital so they could take her out, I’m not sure.

-recently he must have been thinking about this bit of info because he asked how I was going to put my belly back together after they take her out. I explained that actually, I was going to push her out, like he pushes out a poop. (pretty accurate ;) ) Unfortunately, he was more curious and wanted to know where that was going to happen. So I told him (not really a lie but not really too graphic at the same time) that I have a special baby tunnel that I will push her out of. Once again, not enough info for this kid. He wanted to know where the tunnel was and if he could see it. Um, well…. you will be relieved to know that I told him where it was but that it was private and no he could not see it. *L* I think he’s a bit too young for the whole birds and the bees story, but yet I don’t want him to think some stork arrives either…

-He has a really good memory now. In the morning one day he asked Rick what Jorja’s mother’s name was, and he didn’t know so he said “you’ll have to ask Mommy when she picks you up”. I didn’t know about this, so I was surprised when I arrived to pick him up and the first thing he asked was “What’s Jorja’s mother’s name mommy?” which I thought was weird because they were nowhere to be seen… found out the whole story later.

-Rick told Marshall on Tuesday that the Church was selling pancakes and would he be interested in having pancakes for supper? (he loves pancakes) … Marshall proceeded to tell Rick that there was no way that a church was selling pancakes because they don’t sell pancakes daddy don’t be so silly etc etc. No amount of explaining or convincing would do. When we picked him up, Rick asked him if he’d like to go to the church to see if they were selling pancakes and he did. So we had a pancake supper and Marshall charmed all the seniors that we were dining with.

-Marshall is well-liked in his class by both the teachers and the other children. Whenever I arrive, everyone starts “Maaaarshall! Maaaarshall!” He seems to be quite popular. Also, he’s a lot like me because he tells everyone what to do/not to do apparently. The teachers said he’d make a good policeman.

-Marshall would like to be a firefighter when he grows up and “put fire on things and water too” (or something like that *L*)

-He loves Animal Mechanicals but since the CBC NB is so idiotic, we can’t watch it through the week anymore, we can only see it on the weekends. CBC NB decided to put Terry Seguin on the radio on our tv for us so we can SEE him reading the news in the radio studio. And they put up a bunch of annoying pictures of places and scrolly newsbits and such. Not impressed. So we started watching Benjamin Bear and Spongebob together in the mornings before coming downstairs (depending on how early we’re up).

    2010 so far

    Wow. I guess I’m a bit behind here….

January is pretty much a blur.
Rick was away for a few days for a work thing and had a nice visit with some family while he was up there. I didn’t go anywhere or do much myself. I was getting pretty pregnant, and it was cold/icy/snowy out so we pretty much stayed inside. Marshall found a my little pony that he had gotten at McDonald’s a while back and wanted to play with that. And then he declared that the pony didn’t have a hous to live in, so I said why don’t we make one? I got a box and cut a hole and I helped Marshall decorate it. He decided to name her Pony, and I suggested Pony Baloney and he liked that. And now that’s her name and she lives in a beautiful house with her name on it. (pic to come)

Work started getting really busy and I was preparing to train my replacement who was starting Feb 1st. So the weeks flew by.

Marshall had been invited to a birthday party that got postponed to February, so he was disappointed, but was able to go play at Mary’s house which he really enjoys.

Marshall got to have a nice weekend at Gram’s (we try to have one once a month or so). Rick and I had a fabulous weekend – we got lots done around the house, and went out for wings and nachos and a movie.

Then, the last Sunday of January, Gram had to come to Moncton for a course and stayed at a hotel with a pool. Marshall decided he wanted to stay there with Gram. So cute! So she took him swimming for a couple of hours and then we met them for supper. Then Marshall stayed overnight in the hotel with Gram.

Unfortunately, he woke up the next morning complaining of a tummy ache, but we figured it was probably a muscle pull from all the swimming since he didn’t have a fever. All he would eat was yogurt. He had yogurt for breakfast, only drank the yogurt drink out of his lunch box, and when I asked what he wanted for supper that night, he suggested yogurt. Odd. We gave him some advil before bed to help with pain and to help him get to sleep.

    February so far…
The month started off with Marshall throwing up all over me and my bed (Feb 2nd). I guess that stomacheache was a warning sign? *L* Note to self: when child wakes up thirsty and requests 3 drinks of water in a 20 minute timeframe: WARNING WARNING PUKE IMMINENT. I had already showered, but was wearing a very absorbent robe! ;) Rick stayed home wiht him since I was training someone at work and as it was her 2nd day, there wouldn’t be anything for her to do if I didn’t go in. Thankfully, that was it. He was fine, though sleepy and nervous about throwing up again all day and held on to his “barf bucket” for a good part of the morning. He never had a fever though.

The next day, Rick stayed home with him again and I picked them up around 1130 to head to Saint John (see baby news below for details). Sadly, Suwana was closed until the 13th. Boo.
The party that was postponed to February got cancelled and judging from how disappointed Marshall was about it being postponed, I knew he was going to be pretty sad about it being cancelled. So I told him we’d have our own pretend birthday party. And why not make it into a Valentine’s party since it’s February? So we invited a few kids over, and I made individual heart-shaped cakes with my special pan (kinda like a muffin pan with 6 cakes made at a time) so each kid could have their own cake and blow out a candle. I may have gone slightly overboard… we made a trip to Michaels, Bulk Barn and the Canadian Dollar Store and arrived home with a trunkload of craft supplies, candies, and balloons. We got each kid a present too (around $2-3 each) to open just like a birthday party.

On Saturday of that weekend, there was a mixup and some guests weren’t going to be able to make it, so we turned it into 2 parties. Saturday Jorja came over and I was able to get to know her mom Ginny, so it was a fairly quiet party day and they did the valentines crafts and decorated cake and opened their presents.

On Sunday, Jack, his brother Connor, Will and his cousin Allie all came over and had a blast. They weren’t excited about doing the craft though, so we skipped that part.

Each child got to take home their little present (a book), and a helium balloon tied to a treat bag. I think a good time was had by all and everyone in this house was exhausted. BUT. Rick was busy making turkey dinner while we were partying it up ;) So we relaxed for a half hour or so after our guests left and then got to work again. Mary, Val, Randy and Dad arrived around 4 for turkey dinner. We had leftover heart-cakes and delicious McBuns lemon pie (thanks guys!). Since we had dinner so early, we got Marshall to bed at a decent hour and ourselves as well.

On the 13th, he and Rick went to Marshall’s first movie birthday party for Phillip, where Rick was able to enjoy the Tooth Fairy in its glorious entirety. Marshall sat through the whole thing!

Marshall is currently on his February Grammy weekend away – so I’m catching up on a few things. Like this blog!

    Baby news
I am now 37 weeks pregnant and my last day of work was friday. My coworkers took me out to lunch on Thursday at what I have to say is becoming my favourite restaurant in the city: Calactus. They loaded me up with a couple of bags of pink cuteness – much appreciated and super adorable! And a really nice card with personal notes inside. I will really miss this job and the people there.

I then ran off to my weekly Dr. appointment. My belly measured 38cm – a week ahead – big girl! And I gained 2.5 pounds. The doc checked me out and said he didn’t think I was going into labour this week. Though I noticed my feet started swelling and some other signs…
I haven’t had any news from Dr. Sanderson in Saint John about my blood donation.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned the blood thing here yet. I built up antibodies in my blood when I was pregnant with Marshall (anti-LutheranB). Lutheran B is in 99.somethingsomething% of people’s blood, so that means if I need a transfusion at some point I need special rare blood. It turns out that they have some frozen at the Saint John blood place (you know, the one they’re moving to NS sometime this year?). The doc here says he is concerned that it won’t get here and thawed fast enough if they need it, and wanted me to meet with Dr. Sanderson in Saint John to discuss potentially inducing me a week early there so the blood is handy if I need it. Though it is very unlikely that I will need it, they don’t want to take the risk.

Feb 3rd, we all went to Saint John for my appointment. He was a really nice doctor. He got right on the case. He told me I could potetially donate my own blood to myself and he would work on hooking that up. I had to get some more blood tests done in the SJ hospital since apparently they aren’t allowed to transfer results from hospital to hospital or something. They need my blood tests there anyway in case I deliver there so that’s done. He also checked my hemoglobins to make sure I can donate my blood.

I heard back the following week that it looked good but that it was taking some time to arrange everything. I haven’t heard anything back yet, and I think this whole donation thing was supposed to start in my 36th week, so I’m not really sure I can do it now. I’ll be giving him a call on Monday to see what’s up.

In the meantime, the doc here told me there’s fresh blood ready for me and it’s good until February 25th. After that, there’s supposed to be another donor going in, but you never know. And if someone else needs it before I do, then I’m out of luck, so they still want to pursue this donation thing.

That pretty much brings you up to date on that situation. And now I have the sinus cold from hell. Not sure if that will impact the donation or not… hang in there baby girl! Wait til I get better to come out ok???

    Xmas 2009

It’s been a while but here it is!
    Xmas day 2009
Marshall woke up at a decent hour, still wearing his santa hat. He came to wake me and Rick up, then went in to wake up Gram. Rick ran downstairs and got the camera ready. Once everyone was awake we came downstairs trailing after Marshall. He headed into the livingroom and FREAKED! (see video). It was so awesome. He woke up Uncle Jamie in the basement and then he was allowed to open up his sock while we waited for Grampy to arrive.

He and Uncle Jamie distributed gifts and we took turns opening them until somewhere around lunchtime. It was a great day. He kept pointing at a big box and saying that it was his airport from Santa (it was the airport, but it was from Auntie Val) and we made him wait to open that one last. He also was quite excited about his Buzz Lightyear toy :) He loved everything else of course, but those were the top excited factor gifts. He gave equal playing time to all his toys and showed great enthusiasm even when his gifts turned out to be clothes or something fun but not a toy, like toy story sheets for his bed. All around I’d say it was a success.

Uncle Jamie and Gram hung out here while we headed to Mary’s for turkey dinner with Marshall, and when we got back we played some Cadoo Treasure Hunt (board game) with Marshall before bed.

    New Years eve
I was working until noon on New Year’s Eve. However, the daycare had decided to close for the 2 weeks over Xmas break since there were only a few children planning to attend. Rick dropped Marshall off at his buddy Philip’s house, and went into the office to do a bit of work. I picked him up around 1230 in Grampy’s big truck (Grampy was in Mexico!). The 2 weeks of excitement must have caught up with him by then because he was overtired and super-cranky. It was a trial to say the least getting him into the seat and into the house when we got home. He couldn’t be reasoned with. He wasn’t making a lot of sense either come to think of it *L* He wanted to go over the bridge again (we had been in Riverview)… poor kid. In any case, we got sorted, and he had a nap.

That night, Uncle Jamie came over, and Rick and I made hors d’oevres and such. I brought Marshall over to my friend Jen’s family New Years party – in the neighbourhood. Wow. What a party! There were so many people there… tons of kids running wild… loud music and lots of kids and adults dancing. The place was packed. Marshall loved it because his friend Jack was there. I took a short video to give Rick and Jamie an idea of what they were missing ;) LOL

When we came back I put Lady Gaga on and Marshall started breakdancing for the boys. heheheh
It was a fun night, and surprisingly, I think we all (except Marshall) made it to midnight!

    Playdate with the neighbours
Our neighbour, Marie-Claude had a great idea to get the Greenwood corner kids together for a playdate before the holidays were over. Her and Jocelyn’s son, Marek, is 2.5, and Greg and Pam’s boy Greyson is 1.5. We made a big pot of mac&cheese with brocolli(her idea) and they all came over. It worked well for us too because we had a lot of leftover hors d’oevres from New Year’s and Xmas that we were able to share.

At first, Marek and Marshall butted heads a bit over the play kitchen and some other toys, and Greyson stayed close to his mommy. But it was too long before the kids were in the living room and the adults were in the kitchen chatting.

I knew Marshall would be ok out there, so wasn’t checking in on him. Rick was bouncing back and forth checking on things. I told him not to worry and to relax since our kid would be fine, and leave the checking to the other parents. He relaxed a bit. I heard Marshall go “moooommy, moooommy” but I paid no attention. A few minutes later, Marshall came running out and goes “GUYS! WE HAVE A PROBLEM IN HERE!” and then we heard a kid crying and all the parents rushed out to see what happened. *LOL* Turns out Marek wanted to give Greyson a hug and Greyson wasn’t down with that. Crisis! Kids. So funny.

We had a really nice visit with our neighbours.

I think that pretty much sums up the holidays for us. I’ll let Rick add anything I might have forgotten.
