Santa Claus is coming to town!

Saturday morning, Marshall got his 3rd haircut. This time he was all “No! No haircut to me!” cry. cry. It was so sad. I hugged him and told him we would go for a walk and do some shopping and maybe buy him a treat or a toy and then he could get his hair cut. He agreed, and off we went. He found a shopping cart toy in the toy department of Zellers, so he started pushing that around and shopping for toys for himself. He found a little Thomas train, and a plastic mug. He found lots of othre expensive toys too but I told him they were too big for his cart, and off we went to the cash register, where he handed over my hbc points card, proud as can be.

Back we went to Magicuts, where he got a chocolate finger, and got to hold his new plastic mug (with airplanes on it!) and I held his hand while he got his hair cut. He still cried, but his submitted to it, at least. I told him it was really important that he get his hair cut before he sees santa and also our family photos were scheduled for Sunday. He didn’t really care, but he was happy to have his mug and when he was done, he got to hold on to his Thomas train while we shopped together. We met up with grampy in our travels at the Tim Horton’s for some soup.

Apparently Marshall had so much fun, he wanted to go shopping again right away as soon as we got home. *giggle*

Saturday night, we went to the Moncton Christmas parade, which we found out is supposedly the 2nd largest in Canada. In-sane. It was awesome! People come from all over to see the parade here apparently. (who knew?) The weather was perfect – cold but not too cold (not like -30 last year!), and no rain.

We were invited (er, I got us invited *chuckle* thanks Heather!) to the Scotiabank kids party. We have a couple of friends that work there, and every year they have this party for kids at their main branch. It’s right on Main Street, so it’s a great place to stay warm and wait for the parade to come. Marshall had mostly chips for supper that night. He didn’t want any of the pizza. After Santa’s float passed by the bank, he “got off” and came inside to give presents out to the kids. First he played a few xmas songs on his guitar. When he called Marshall’s name, Marshall headed up, but stopped halfway and came back for me. He was very pleased with his gift and hasn’t stopped doodling in his Tonka book/magnadoodler combo ever since.

We got home late, and we all piled into mommy and daddy’s bed for some cuddles and xmas shows, but alas there were no xmas shows to be found.

Today was another busy day. We got our family pictures done, and I have to say they are GREAT. :) Gretchen got a digital camera this year, so she took a ton of pics, and emailed a few over to me tonight. It was a bit cold out, but we were good for about 30 minutes or so. Then we headed to Crystal Palace for the TRAIN, and starbucks to warm up. :)

All day I’ve been making soups, preparing for the week, doing laundry, checking my xmas stash to see who I have left to buy for … hehehe And I also ran around looking at wreaths. Who knew it was so hard to buy a wreath? And that they are so complicated? Real or fake? Plain or decorated? Decorate it yourself? How big? aaaaaaargh. Maybe no wreath is the way to go.

At my office, we’re buying for a family this year instead of doing a secret santa thing like we usually do, so I have that pretty much all done. Just a few odds and ends left now.

Tonight I made chocolate chip cookies (completely contrary to my diet of course, but I am having a hard time staying on it these last couple of weeks! I am totally blaming this on stress!) and I halved the recipe but forgot to half the butter. ugh. But then I ate some of them anyway. And they were disgusting. But so good at the same time. ugh. Now I just feel kind of sick, and wondering how many pounds that added and was it worth it? *L*

Now I am supposed to be making seafood chowder but I can’t find the recipe! ack! However, I did make tomato soup and chicken veg soup today, so I guess I should just quit while I’m ahead.

    Last moustache post

Okay, I don’t want to subject people to this longer than is necessary. I’m starting to look like Earl Hickey.

Anyway, if you can spare a few bucks for the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada, it will be appreciated.

      nice.

last year i dressed up as earl hickey for hallowe’en. Except, i grew a beard for all of october and then shaved it down to the moustache for the big event. While there was an element of surprise going on there, there certainly wasn’t any courage. I didn’t have a moustache for 30 days like you have this year!

    sniffles, soccer, and projects

Poor Marshall has had the sniffles all week.

On Tuesday, his eye started running a bit. On Wednesday, Cathy was concerned that he might have pinkeye because when he woke from his nap, his eye was a bit pink. She called at work to tell me this so I’d have a chance to get in to the clinic that evening. I made an appointment and picked up Marshall, (“no! no doctor me!”) only to realize I didn’t have his medicare card. We rushed home and I ransacked the house (poor Rick, I dumped a lot of his catch-alls out all over the house), finally found a copy of the paper that the cards came on with the number on it. (still not sure where that card is…) Arrived a few minutes late for the appointment to find that the doctor had gotten held up at the hospital and was running an hour late. I told M that mommy had an appointment and he could come with me after we went to McDonald’s ;) So we went to McDonald’s which I had promised my sniffly little monkey. He was quite pleased about this, and had his standard chicken nuggets, dippit and fries with a toy. He then requested ice cream. As it was after 6pm at this point, I will admit that my diet did not go well that night.

We then shopped at Jean Coutu where Marshall exclaimed around every corner “mommy I found something! I found something mommy!” which was loud enough to be heard around the store. He found toys, of course, and soothers and sippy cups and all kinds of things that looked like toys but which weren’t toys. We finally hit the cash with some cheap washable markers, and a notebook (Marshall’s favourite thing these days) and some funny animal tossable plates, and just then the doctor’s office called to say they were ready for us (7pm). She had a look at M, but didn’t touch him, so again, very pleased. It was the same doc we’d had when he had his “ear infection” (a.k.a. broken arm!) in May. She gave us a prescription for pink eye stuff just in case his eye gets goopy, but so far it hasn’t, so looks like it was just the cold after all.

Yesterday, Marshall did not like soccer. Daddy decided to take him this week to give me a break – since it is a lot of pumping up and trying to get the kids interested, and in our case, running after M before he can make it to the door to get outside … it’s a lot of work! It did not go well. Marshall apparently laid down in the middle of the field and cried until Rick took him home. Looks like we’ll try to cancel the soccer and see if we can get some money back. That makes 3 weeks in a row he’s wanted to leave within the first 10 minutes. Ugh!

We walked to the market, and picked up a birthday gift at the mall, and some groceries and headed home. He wouldn’t nap in the afternoon, but that might have had something to do with my telling him that Max was in town (his birthday this week) – he was so excited and couldn’t stop talking about him all day. I told him we were going to have pizza with Max and he said “no! no pizza! just toys!”.

Just to prove his point, he refused to eat any pizza. In fact, it’s been hard to get him to eat anything lately (maybe the cold). He finally had some very fast bites of greek salad when the cake was imminent and I told him he could have cake but only if he had some supper first. (I know, that’s probably the wrong thing to do, but seriously, it’s the only way)

By the time we headed home at 730, he had bright red circles for cheeks (tired face). He didn’t give us too much trouble with the bedtime that night.

Today wasn’t the greatest day. M woke up all croaky and cute, and wanted to watch Blue’s Clues, so he sat in his little rocking chair in the guest room watching for a while. I brought him some fruit but he wouldn’t eat. The best he would do is a yogurt drink. We played toys a bit but mostly he wanted to watch tv, and when we couldn’t get Bo on the Go on the tv for him, he freaked. We tried to get him to take some medicine but he refused everything and was seriously not our child for a while… like totally mental. I don’t think we’ve ever seen him like that before. Finally, Rick suggested they go for a walk and that was fine. He had 2 bananas at the store and wanted soup when he got back. Although he wouldn’t eat it when he got here, and started up with the crying again. I laid down with him for a while until he settled. When he ramped back up again, Rick went up and put Bo on the Go from the internet on his macbook and laid in his bed with him and watched. Finally Marshall said “can I watch later daddy?” with a big yawn.

He didn’t nap for long though. Poor kid! I had gone for a walk in the rain to pick up some things at the store and before I came home got the message that M was up and upset again so Rick was on his way to get me. We went to Crystal Palace… what better way to cheer up a sick kid right? hehehe He loves the train, and we love Starbucks :P So we spent some time there, and then hit the drugstore to see if we could find a more palletable form of pain-killer for M. I picked up some dissolving ones and some chewables, but M would have none of it. He was asking for McDonald’s (cripes how did he get so brainwashed anyway???) and so we told him if he took his medecine he could have his nuggets and even ice cream. Nothing doing.

He was such a sad little boy. He wouldn’t eat any supper. Finally I took that chewable tablet and found a package of rockets from his hallowe’en treat bag and did some switcheroo. I offered him the rockets and watched as he finally took his medecine! Whoot! He laid on the couch for a bit then started getting peppy. He had his bath and asked for soup, so back downstais we went for soup, and fishsticks, and and and! yay! He had a nice meal and then was having a “party in my room!” for a while – he was back to his normal self *whew*. Thank you Advil that looks like rockets! Thank you!
    (although isn’t that totally scary!?)

Here is my (almost) final project that was started just after I wrote my exams at the end of September:

I have a few final touches to do to the chairs (some screw-holes got stripped) and 1 chair left to do. Then it’s on to the curtain (same material as the chairs).

Today I made the chicken soup from our “diet” … it’s really good soup! I’ll add it to the recipes page when I have more time. This entry is way out of hand! *L*

    G’night!

So sorry to hear poor M was not feeling like himself! Good on ya for coming up with the switcheroo idea! The table and chairs look fantastic! A lot of hard work but totally worth it when you see the end result!

Great job on the table and chairs – they look beautiful!

    Hillbilly Housewife

Here’s a link a friend of mine passed on: Hillbillyhousewife.com apparently there’s a recipe on there for tortillas that will only take you 30 minutes or so to make from scratch and are fantabulous!

    Hallowe’en 2008

Marshall had a fabulous night. I picked him up a bit early from Cathy’s place. We managed to get a couple of pieces of a peanut butter sandwich into him before too much candy. We were out for what must have been about an hour or so trick-or-treating around the nearby blocks, then brought him back – he had started dragging his feet and said it was time to go home because it was too dark out.
His little pumpkin bag was getting pretty heavy too. So we came home and dumped the candy out and convinced him to go another few houses with Rick, who had been home handing out candy.

We didn’t have a great number this year, and I had bought enough for 100 kids. I think we got maybe 30 this year, although I think we had about 70 last year. Our little block has only a few houses on it, and a couple of those people weren’t home, so I guess the kids generally don’t bother with our block. Oh well… must not eat candy and chips now.

I added some pics to our picture page – have a look at the smilebox and also at the October 2008 album.
