    White, white Christmas

This has been a very nice holiday for us, as we are accustomed to driving many dozens of hours over the Christmas break. This year, we haven’t even left Moncton city limits, which has allowed us to have a most restful week after a particularly busy year.

Christmas day was very nice, and the highlight – as usual - has been having Marshall around all the time doing cute and fun stuff. It has been easy keeping him in his routine, so he has been eating and sleeping like a bear. He has really been enjoying his new toys and entertaining guests from near and far. We’ve even had him outside with a new shovel, but all he wants to do is ride around in the big scoop.

On the 23rd, we had a raclette (indoor BBQ) with our Halifax friends Dan and Pauwlina. Then, we had a real outdoor BBQ on Christmas eve! Jamie and I cooked up some chicken satay, jumbo shrimp, and steak to go with our eggs on Christmas morning. Tamara and Marshall had the wagon out delivering Christmas cards to neighbours.

We had Christmas dinner at Mary’s place, and Marshall was again the center of attention. The 26th was pretty quiet, since Boxing Day shopping doesn’t happen in the Maritimes until the 27th. Which is where I found myself at 5:45 am – in a GIANT line outside of Future Shop! Normally I don’t go for shopping mayhem, but this was kind of fun! I didn’t buy any big-ticket items, but got some good deals nonetheless (thanks for the nice cordless phones, Dad!).

Tamara’s mom arrived yesterday (the 29th) for a nice visit. We had some chinese food and she enjoyed lots of time with her grandson. Later this afternoon we are going to an open house that our friends are having, and then tomorrow will be a low-key New Year’s Eve. I’m cooking a turkey on the 1st, and then it’s back to the regular program on the 2nd.

I’m really pleased that I’ve managed to avoid overeating (relatively speaking) this holiday season, and have been to the squash courts 3 times in the last 4 days. Add shovelling on top of that, and I should be on track to start 2008 in a healthier mindset. Our third snowstorm in the past 5 days is expected tomorrow! What a difference from Halifax!

Hope everyone has had a great Christmas holiday!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

For those of you who didn’t know, we had a major storm here on Tuesday and got … I think it was 50cms or something like that.  Even the mall was closed!  So we got to stay home from work that day and get caught up on a few things.  Rick’s CFIB Xmas dinner (at our house) was cancelled as well since Leanne couldn’t make it from Halifax, and no one would have been able to go out and pick up the food.

We just had a wonderful visit from our friends Kelly, Mandy and 8-week-old Serena this weekend!  Us girls went xmas shopping yesterday … we spent 7 hours at the mall!  It was a blast!  And we didn’t spend too much money either.  :)   It was great just to mosey along and have a pretzel and a fancy coffee, and mosey some more.

I wanted to post a quick update since Rick has gone to pick up our Christmas tree and some groceries, and Marshall is napping.  I’m going to be getting our xmas decos out in a minute, and maybe wrap a few gifts.

Marshall has been doing all kinds of fun new things, like spinning!  When we ask him if he can spin, the first time he did a bit of a walk-around spin.  Nice and slow.  Then mommy showed him how to spin really fast and the other night he was in just the mood to do it.  He got really dizzy and fell down on his bum and laughed.  We got him to do it for our guests this weekend and everyone thought it was hilarious, so he wouldn’t stop doing it!  We were worried he’d make himself sick so we took him up to bed.  *L*

He still loves music and dancing.  He loves looking out the window and knocking on it.  He sometimes likes to pull or push mommy or daddy by the pantlegs and make them go somewhere or sit in a chair or something.  Recently, he pushed daddy out of the bedroom and waved bye bye at him and shut the door.

He liked to wave at Serena … right next to her face.  And he took all his pajamas out of his pajama drawer and put them in her bed.  Maybe because he knew it was cold?  *L*

He has made some sounds that sound like words, but we can never get him to repeat them…a couple of times he’s said something that sounded like goodnight!  He seems to have his own language.  When Kelly went in the office, he ran over to the doorway and wagged his pointed finger at her and told her right off.  *L* as if to say  “not allowed in there! close the door!” like mommy is always saying to him.

He can follow requests such as “give this to daddy” or “get in your highchair for lunch” and “let’s go upstairs”.  He gives the sweetest hugs.  He will give you a really wet kiss, but only if you’re on the other side of a baby gate, or if you have a basket on your head.  (Don’t ask me why?!)

He still loves his books, but he’s very particular about which ones you read him before bed.  I’ll pick one and he’ll go “nuh” and push it away, and then I keep picking another until he decides it’s a good one (currently Good Night Moon and Caillou a la ferme are on the hitlist) and he’ll settle back into my lap and relax and listen to it.

He has started to like reading in the living room sometimes.  He will get up on the couch with a book next to me and I’ll read it.  (current favourites: peekaboo bunny and snoopy’s “my favourite things”)  And then he keeps giving it back to me when it’s finished and I read it again. and again.  and again.  He’s enthralled.

He has lots of sippy cups, although he still gets a bottle of formula before his afternoon nap and before bed.  We started mixing homo milk in with his morning cereal, and introduced a little milk in a sippy cup too.

He only naps in the afternoon now.  From about 1-4 usually, but this weekend it’s been from 2-5 or 6!  Tonight we’ll make sure he’s up by 5 to get him back on track for the week.

Oh, and since Bob is always asking…. He had his first ROAST BEEF on Friday! mmmm  He loves it.

I will try to think of more things and add them.
