White, white Christmas
This has been a very nice holiday for us, as we are accustomed to driving many dozens of hours over the Christmas break. This year, we haven’t even left Moncton city limits, which has allowed us to have a most restful week after a particularly busy year.
Christmas day was very nice, and the highlight – as usual - has been having Marshall around all the time doing cute and fun stuff. It has been easy keeping him in his routine, so he has been eating and sleeping like a bear. He has really been enjoying his new toys and entertaining guests from near and far. We’ve even had him outside with a new shovel, but all he wants to do is ride around in the big scoop.
On the 23rd, we had a raclette (indoor BBQ) with our Halifax friends Dan and Pauwlina. Then, we had a real outdoor BBQ on Christmas eve! Jamie and I cooked up some chicken satay, jumbo shrimp, and steak to go with our eggs on Christmas morning. Tamara and Marshall had the wagon out delivering Christmas cards to neighbours.
We had Christmas dinner at Mary’s place, and Marshall was again the center of attention. The 26th was pretty quiet, since Boxing Day shopping doesn’t happen in the Maritimes until the 27th. Which is where I found myself at 5:45 am – in a GIANT line outside of Future Shop! Normally I don’t go for shopping mayhem, but this was kind of fun! I didn’t buy any big-ticket items, but got some good deals nonetheless (thanks for the nice cordless phones, Dad!).
Tamara’s mom arrived yesterday (the 29th) for a nice visit. We had some chinese food and she enjoyed lots of time with her grandson. Later this afternoon we are going to an open house that our friends are having, and then tomorrow will be a low-key New Year’s Eve. I’m cooking a turkey on the 1st, and then it’s back to the regular program on the 2nd.
I’m really pleased that I’ve managed to avoid overeating (relatively speaking) this holiday season, and have been to the squash courts 3 times in the last 4 days. Add shovelling on top of that, and I should be on track to start 2008 in a healthier mindset. Our third snowstorm in the past 5 days is expected tomorrow! What a difference from Halifax!
Hope everyone has had a great Christmas holiday!
