    A new chapter

Rick and I are enjoying a week off together after a very stressful few weeks.  Last week I wrote my CA exams for the 3rd (and hopefully LAST) time.

Marshall’s babysitter’s mom passed away on the 13th which meant that I had to keep Marshall home on the 14th – which was one of my study days.  However, my schedule is flexible, and luckily Rick didn’t mind taking care of him while I went off and studied all day Saturday.  I did another couple of hours on Sunday, and Monday was a final review and getting things packed up and in order.

The exams were Tuesday, Wedensday and Thursday – a total of 13 hours of exams.  We went out to lunch each day.  Friday I finally got my hair done (much needed) and went to lunch with my mom.

Friday night, Bob (Grampa)  and Donna arrived from Quebec.  Marshall was already in bed, but boy it was like Christmas Saturday morning because he got an electronic guitar, a wagon and a new sweater and hat set (handmade by Donna)!  We did some visiting, some shopping, and of course, lots of eating!  (mmm Kingsey cheese)

We laughed a lot at Marshall because he was so hilarious.  He fell in love with their cooler and found it to be…well possibly MORE exciting than his new guitar.  He climbed on it, and pushed it around, and then today he discovered how to open it.  It was hours of entertainment.

Our guests headed to Sussex this afternoon, but not before doing all the dishes and our gardening for us…what?  Thanks! :)

    Marshall’s newest things:

    •  not liking the carseat and getting really mad and stiff as a board
    • the protest – goes limp and sliiiiiiides when he doesn’t want to do something
    • climbing into his highchair by himself
    • climbing other things such as the pello chair, the cooler, the babygate etc.
    • visiting the neighbours – he likes to cross the street and go up their front steps and then stand around their front door. The first time we did this the guy was home and came to the screen door and held it closed so the dogs wouldn’t come out.
    • going for walks – he likes to walk by himself now and puts up a fuss about getting into the stroller most of the time.  He can walk most of the way to the park, but often when we’re walking somewhere he wants to walk in the opposite direction of where we’re going

I’ll try to add some new pics tonight!

I can’t believe how independent he’s becoming and apparently entertaining!

I’m requesting some new videos of him walking! :)

Marshall and Daddy went to Fredericton to see Gram and to go to the Fredericton Exhibition, where Marshall got to go on some rides for the first time.  Luckily Gram and Daddy didn’t tell Mommy that they took him on the ferris wheel until after they did it.  [Apparently he quite enjoyed it, but I would have freaked out if I had known!]

While they were having a blast at the fair, I was in St. Andrews staying at the Algonquin with my dad and got spoiled for the weekend with an early birthday gift of some spa services.  The massage was dreamy!  The body wrap wasn’t bad – relaxing – and then they had chocolate birthday truffles waiting for me when I was done.  I walked around town a bit and saw my grandparents’ old house, did some shopping, then had a delicious fancy dinner with the IBM crew.

Marshall woke up with a fever on Sunday (the 9th) so he was a bit cranky all day and missed his buddy Will’s 1st Birthday party :(     We still have to swing by and drop off his gift soon…

This week, Marshall got his first hair cut!  his bangs have been too long for a while, but I just couldn’t bring myself to cut those sweet baby-bangs.  They’ve been getting in his eyes, and he’s been getting food in them and everything, so we decided to trim the bangs.  I started by combing his wet hair while he was in the bathtub but he got really upset and it seemed like he was afraid of the black comb.  *L*  I tried the white one but he was too upset by that time.  We got him calmed down and dressed on his change table and Rick distracted him while I went ahead and tried again.  He still got really upset, but at least we got it done!

Cathy(Marshall’s daycare)’s mom passed away thursday night suddenly so he stayed home with me yesterday.  He learned how to open doors using doorknobs yesterday.  Rick bought some safety thingies today for them that seem to be working so far.

This week, he looked under the couch for a toy that rolled under there, and reached under to get it!  (sounds so easy, but he’s never done this before!)  He also had us laughing so hard that I thought I was going to pee on the couch.  He came up with some new funky dance moves, and he was dancing with himself in the reflection of the stereo cabinet.

He loves sucking on my apple and scraping his teeth on it to get some bits in his mouth.  He comes running over and his eyes look all around while he’s doing it.  So funny!  You really have to see it to appreciate it.

Tonight he had some chocolate cake.  Probably way too much of it, since Grampy was sneaking it to him ;)    He was also practicing getting up (sometimes he needed a little help) and down (all by himself) from the couch!  I think he was having a sugar rush.  *giggle*

I’m writing my exam soon…can’t wait to get it over with!  Just 3 more days!  I’ll be studying tomorrow morning, then going to a fitness class with a friend.  Monday, I’ll be doing just a few more hours of studying and packing my stuff up, and Tuesday’s the first day of exams.  I shall reward myself with some shopping!

Nose in the books, shot in the leg

I’ve been busy with studying for these exams I have coming up, so I haven’t been posting much lately.

Today Marshall had his 2nd HepB shot.  He was a good boy!  He went to daycare this morning and had a bit of a scare with the vaccuum cleaner there (he was in the room with her when she started vaccuuming out the toybox and he freaked out).  I picked him up at 11 and gave him his tylenol then picked up Daddy and went to the public health clinic.  There were some little cuties there!  He weighed in at 27lbs15oz, then got his shot and cried for a couple of minutes.  It didn’t take him long to recover.  He tried walking back down the hallway where he had gotten the shot.

While in the 15-minute post-shot waiting room, we chatted with a woman who was there with her 4-month old.  She was interested in our cloth diapers.  :)   It seems like a lot of people are interested in them.  I am starting to give out our website so they can find our favourite sellers and more information quickly.  She is also practicing Evacuation or Elimination Communication  (also here) with her son.  This seems to be another up-and-coming baby trend.  Parents encourage going to the bathroom pretty much from birth.  They watch for the signs that the baby is going to pee or poo, and run them to the toilet lickity-split.  I am not sure I could do this myself (not enough patience).

What else is new…  Marshall loves to scream.  Whenever he’s excited about something he screams.  Cathy (Marshall’s daycare) had to tell the other kids that he wasn’t upset, just excited.  *L*  He especially gets excited about animals like Bounce or Tasha, Cathy’s dog.

Marshall still loves to chase Bounce.  I think Bounce is liking it less and less.

He is getting lots of teeth and seemingly all at once.

He loves doors.  He loves the pots and pans.  He likes to eat Mommy and Daddy’s food.  He eats most things now.  He had some of our stir-fry the other night.

He is currently sporting a runny-ish stuffy nose.  I am also.

He has been having a rough time falling asleep and staying asleep lately.  We’re not sure if this has to do with his teeth or his cold or what.  A couple of times this week he woke up at 3am (diaper leaked because it was so full) and thought it was a good time to get up for the day.  Mommy and Daddy did not agree.  It took over an hour to get to go back to sleep.  Last night he went back to sleep quickly though (thank you son!).

We went to a movie Saturday night (The Bournce Ultimatum) and Marshall hung out with Mary and Val.  He went right to sleep when they put him to bed and didn’t wake up at all.  It was so nice to come to folded laundry (thanks Mary!) and a sleeping baby :)   The movie was quite good too.  We even stayed afterwards and played a little pinball.  We didn’t want to stay out too late though and get caught up in the concert traffic.

    Ok, back to studying!
